Hozugawa river boat ride tours, reviewed and ranked
Where to start. If you want the boat ride with the whole day built around it, read my review of the Arashiyama train, boat and onsen day first. It is the longest-running package that actually contains the Hozugawa Kudari. Coming from Osaka and unwilling to solve the Kameoka transfer yourself? Start with the Osaka day tour. And if what you want is the water rather than the gorge going past, the rafting trip is a different product on the same river, which I say plainly on its page.
How I judge these
I grew up ten minutes from the Kameoka pier and worked four seasons on the riverbank, so I am not scoring the boat. The boat is the boat: 16 km, about 100 minutes, three to five boatmen working oars and poles. What separates these six products is the day around it. Kameoka is one train line out of central Kyoto and the boat lands you 16 km away in Arashiyama, so the thing you are really buying is a solved transfer and return.
I do not print live figures here. They move, and a verdict built on a handful of bookings is not the same claim as one built on hundreds — printed side by side they mislead more than they help. I have not quoted individual reviewers anywhere on this site either: I could not verify the review text, so you get my reasoning instead of an invented testimonial.

The cheapest booking on the river and the small-group day are both recent listings with a handful of bookings behind them. However they look showing today is a rounding error, not a verdict, and I am not going to dress it up as one. Both include the boat ticket and both look reasonable on paper. If you book one, you are the test.

Which Hozugawa tour is booked most often?
The half-day rafting trip, by a wide margin — more bookings than the other five put together. It is also the one product here that is not the traditional boat ride, so read the rafting review before you book it by mistake. Do I need a tour at all, or can I just buy a boat ticket?
You can walk up and buy a ticket. The boat is the easy part; the day around it is not, which is why most people book a package. The trade-offs are laid out in tickets and booking ahead.
